”Pittsburgh is a beautiful city and offers great diversity, cool places to visit, museums, natural parks and night life. It is a city that has a lot of entertainment for all ages, especially young people."
Why did you choose Point Park University?
Head baseball coach Loren Torres recruited me and offered a really great scholarship to come to Point Park and play for the baseball team. It has been one of the best decisions I’ve made in my life.
What does Pittsburgh have to offer you as an international student?
Pittsburgh is a beautiful city and offers great diversity, cool places to visit, museums, natural parks and night life. It is a city that has a lot of entertainment for all ages, especially young people. Living in the city with the second largest number of bridges in the world is also a plus.
How do you balance life as a student-athlete?
It's really demanding because unlike other sports, baseball has an all-year season. We practice all the way from September until February, which is when our season starts. During the season, it can be challenging because of all the travelling we do and we’ll complete assignments on the bus when we are on the road. And without good grades, there's no baseball. You have to go to class and stay on top of the work to balance both. The pre-season and season can be exhausting, but at the same time enjoyable.
Outside of school and baseball, how do you spend your free time?
I enjoy working out, going to the beach, hiking, talking to my family back home in Venezuela through video calls, and just anything that involves having fun.
What advice do you have for incoming students?
My advice would be not to procrastinate on assignments. Most students think that they are busy or have a really tight schedule, when they actually have a lot of free time that can be used to do all those assignments and still enjoy themselves during the week. Also, just enjoy the college experience, especially because Point Park is located Downtown and there are a variety of fun things to do every day. Keep in mind that four years of college goes way faster than you would expect, and even though people can go to college more than one time in their lives, the full college experience is only a once in lifetime opportunity!
